TABLE TENNIS GENERAL OBJECTIVES

 

Upon completion of the table tennis unit, the students will:

  1. Enhance their leg and arm strength and flexibility as a result of regular participation in daily table tennis drills and activities.
  2. Successfully demonstrate the fundamental skills of forehand, backhand and serve.
  3. Properly execute skills in a match situation and choose the best skill to score a point or the best defensive shot to keep an opponent from scoring.
  4. Demonstrate through match situations sufficient knowledge of singles and doubles strategies, including player positioning, and shot placement.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of rules, terminology and history of volleyball.
  6. Display the acceptance of classmates of all skill levels, exhibit good sportsmanship, and demonstrate a cooperative attitude with doubles partners.

Skills are automatic and are demonstrated with consistently and with few observable errors in technique.

Skills can be performed, but has difficulty combining in isolation and/or in match settings. Performance may be ineffective and inconsistent.

Application of Strategy

Applies offensive and defensive concepts during singles and or doubles matches.  Can transition smoothly between offense and defense strokes. During doubles matches, always supports teammate by moving to an appropriate position. (off the ball movements)

Usually applies most offensive/defensive concepts, but with some hesitation/delay.

Attempts to use skills appropriately given the situation.

Shows some application of some offensive/defensive concepts, but lacks consistency.  Little evidence of offensive placement and/or defensive positioning.
